Confessions of a Helicopter Parent
By Dena Higley
Helicopter parents have been around since the beginning of parenting, most likely. But the practice of over-parenting came into its own sometime during the 1990s when parents were bombarded with news stories about child abductions, academic competition, and ultimately, competition in a global economy. This epic has change the way I see my parents concerns. I loved this book! I couldn't put it down. The story is honest and heart-felt and a truly inspirational read. It takes a lot of courage to come out and talk about the kind of things that Amanda Beard does in her book. It helps to be a track and field fan while reading this amazing book, but it's certainly not required. The writing is so good and the stories so compelling that anyone who picks up the book will get hooked.
The book is full of funny and entertaining stories, but more than that, it issues a challenge to the reader: Every morning when you wake up you get the invitation to live a life of complete engagement, a life where love does.
I would recommend the book to anyone. But obviously this book has emotional healing and the supports parents from her family and friends has helped her come to terms with her past and helped her be willing to give back in this way. This well written and reveling book is a page turner with a happy ending! Highly recommended!
I got a free copy of this from Booksneeze for my honest and fair review.
